The choice of spark plugs: cold and hot candles

Spark plugs are a special device whose main purpose is to ignite the fuel and air mixture. Such spark plugs are used in petrol engines and differ in their performance characteristics. In this article, we will tell you about what are the cold spark plugs. Let’s discuss more about how to distinguish hot spark plugs from cold.
Why choose the right spark plugs?
Many car owners do not pay due attention to the correctness of the choice and quality of spark plugs used when operating their car. But after all, the engine power, its fuel consumption and fuel economy depend on it. That is why it is necessary to use quality candles, to regularly carry out their maintenance and, if necessary, to replace them.
Number of electrodes at the candle
Today, you can find single- and multi-electrode hot and cold spark plugs for sale. Each of these varieties has certain benefits. Today, single-electrode candles are used predominantly with older engines, which is due to their short lifetime and instability in their work.
Modern powerful forced engines use multi-electrode spark plugs that can have up to four side electrodes. They are characterized by longevity and stability in work. We note a significant reduction in exhaust toxicity and a reduction in fuel consumption when using such multi-electronic candles. Their only drawback is the high price, which leads to a significant increase in maintenance and repair costs, especially when it is required to replace them with a six or eight-cylinder engine.

Central electrode material
When choosing spark plugs it is necessary first of all to pay attention to the material from which the central electrode is made. In inexpensive spare parts for its manufacture iron, nickel, copper or zinc can be used. If the spark plugs pour on the cold, then the cause may be thick iron electrodes. But in high-ignition spark plugs the electrode can be made of noble metal platinum, iridium and silver. The use of such metals makes it possible to perform ultrafine electrodes, which in turn gives a high spark to its power and prevents the pouring of candles.
From the advantages of candles with an electrode made of noble metals, we can note their excellent durability indicators. For example, simple nickel candles typically serve 30,000 kilometers, while models with a platinum central electrode have a guaranteed lifetime of 100,000 kilometers.

Calyole number, cold and warm candles
The gauge number indicates the pressure in the cylinders, in which there is a spontaneous ignition of the fuel mixture from the glow plug. The appearance of such a spark ignition negatively affects the engine, leads to loss of power and increased fuel consumption. Such a spontaneous ignition of the fuel-air mixture results in an increased load on the piston group, which in turn reduces engine life. Many car owners are wondering the spark plugs cold hot what’s the difference. This concept directly depends on the number of the creep.
It is precisely the gauge number that determines the thermal modes of the operation of the candle. Accordingly, the higher this indicator, the more difficult the conditions can work a particular spark plug. That is why it is necessary to take into account this characteristic and compare it with the performance indicators of a particular internal combustion engine. It is customary to subdivide the cold and hot spark plugs, the difference between which is the indicator of the creep number. As you can understand from the name, the cold candles are slowly warmed up, and subsequently quickly dissipate the resulting heat. In the hot spark plugs, on the contrary, there is a rapid heating, but at the same time, such devices slowly dissipate heat.
Hot candles are recommended for use in engines that operate at standard crankshaft speeds. In such power units, the candles are not exposed to severe temperature loads, which also allows for trouble-free ignition and the absence of spontaneous ignition of the mixture. Popularly used self-cleaning hot candles, which have such a cleaning at relatively low temperatures, which allows you to improve the flammability of the fuel mixture.
But cold spark plugs are characterized by increased resistance to temperature loads and are recommended for use in turbocharged and forced power units. Self-cleaning of such candles occurs at high temperatures, therefore it is not recommended to install them in ordinary atmospheric unforced engines. In atmospheric motors, the temperature regime will not allow cold candles to self-clean, which will lead to a problem
